CogAT is a universal screener used to determine and act as part of a body of evidence for student potential.  CogAT scores are not “intelligence scores.” Rather, they are indicators of a child’s level of certain problem solving and reasoning skills at a particular point in time.

Results will indicate children’s areas of strength so that classroom teachers can provide instruction to nurture those strengths. They also will be used in conjunction with other large scale standardized scores, classroom performance, behavior check lists, and teacher and parent input to help identify students for gifted programming.
